Prabowo Vows to Eradicate Corrupt and Inefficient Bureaucracy

President Prabowo Subianto has highlighted bureaucratic practices that are still considered convoluted and potentially detrimental to the public. According to Prabowo, the bureaucracy should be a tool for providing services, not an obstacle to the people’s interests.

This was conveyed by Prabowo at the Annual Session of the MPR and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD RI in the context of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, 14 August 2026.

Prabowo stressed that bureaucratic reform must be a serious concern for the government. He even called for the eradication of the practice of abusing office for personal or group interests.

“Inefficient bureaucracy, bureaucrats who often use their positions and authority to enrich themselves, their families and their groups, must be eradicated,” said Prabowo.

According to Prabowo, an effective bureaucracy must be able to accelerate decision-making and ensure that government policies truly benefit the public.

“The state must make things easier for the people, not more difficult,” said Prabowo.

He emphasised that bureaucratic reform cannot be carried out by the central government alone. Regional governments, from the provincial level down to regencies and cities, must also ensure that public services run effectively.

Prabowo asked all levels of government to be more sensitive to the conditions of the community. The aspirations of citizens, he said, need to be heard so that policies and services provided do not add to the burden on the people.

Thus, bureaucratic reform is expected to encourage public services that are faster, simpler, and oriented towards the needs of the community.
