Prabowo Vows Firm Action Against Corruption, Compares Economy to a Body That Must Be Healed
President Prabowo Subianto has affirmed that the government will continue to eradicate corruption and irregularities in the implementation of government programmes. Speaking at a Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, the President noted that the government is still finding irregularities in several priority programmes, including the Free Nutritious Meals Programme (MBG), which is currently being rectified. “We are saddened that there are economists and individuals who seek to enrich themselves from a task or effort that is so great and so noble for the people. But what can we do, if it is a disease we must face it,” Prabowo said. According to the President, the government will take firm action against all forms of corruption and irregularities while prioritising prudence in the law enforcement process. Prabowo likened the economy to a body whose health must be maintained, stating that corrupt practices, price mark-ups, fraud, and collusion must be corrected so as not to damage the national economy. “We are fixing this,” he said.
