Prabowo Visits Megawati's Residence to Offer Condolences; PDIP Confirms No Political Discussions Held

The Chairman of the PDIP Central Executive Board, Said Abdullah, has ensured that President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to the residence of the 5th President of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, did not involve any political discourse.

He stated that Prabowo only arrived to convey his condolences regarding the passing of Mohammad Guruh Irianto Soekarnoputra. “This meeting was highly personalised, and there were no other discussions between the two, let alone any talk of politics,” Said said in a statement on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.

Prabowo admitted that he had not been able to pay his respects in person during the period when Guruh’s body was laid in state through to the funeral procession due to a dense schedule of governmental and state duties.

“During the time Mas Guruh’s body was laid in state until the funeral procession, the President had not yet had the opportunity to pay his respects directly due to such a heavy governmental and state agenda,” said Said.

Said noted that the family understands Prabowo’s busy schedule, especially as Guruh’s passing was described as sudden, leaving the family and relatives in mourning.

According to Said, Prabowo’s visit to Megawati’s residence was a gesture to convey his condolences directly, particularly as Prabowo and Megawati are said to have long-standing friendships.

“I fully understand the density of his schedule. Moreover, Mas Guruh’s passing was very sudden and has left us all in mourning,” he added.

Said mentioned that the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati took place in an atmosphere of intimacy and emotion, with both parties offering prayers for one another.

Prabowo, according to Said, prayed that the late Guruh Soekarnoputra would receive the best place by the side of Allah SWT. Meanwhile, Megawati prayed that Prabowo would always be granted health and blessings in carrying out his duties as the President of Indonesia.

“During the meeting, the two friends prayed for each other; the President prayed that the soul of Mas Guruh Soekarnoputra be accepted by Allah SWT. Conversely, Ibu Mega also prayed that the President be continuously blessed with health and be able to carry out his national leadership duties perfectly,” said Said.

It was previously reported that President Prabowo Subianto visited the residence of the 5th President, Megawati Soekarnoputri, in Jakarta on Monday night to express his condolences following the death of Mohammad Guruh Irianto Soekarnoputra.
