JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto visited the grave of labour activist Marsinah after inaugurating the Marsinah Museum and Rest House in Nganjuk Regency, East Java, on Saturday (16 May 2026).

According to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat on Sunday (17 May 2026), Prabowo paid his respects with reverence.

The visit signifies the state’s recognition of Marsinah’s struggle as a symbol of courage and the fight for workers’ rights in Indonesia.

Upon arriving at the cemetery, Prabowo walked to Marsinah’s grave. In front of Marsinah’s grave, Prabowo scattered flowers and said a prayer for the deceased.

Prabowo was accompanied by Minister of Environment Jumhur Hidayat, Minister of Manpower Yassierli, and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo during the visit.

In his speech during the museum inauguration ceremony, Prabowo stated that the aspiration to designate a labour figure as a national hero came directly from Indonesian labourers.

Prabowo also expressed his honour in being able to make Marsinah a National Hero.

“They were united; all labour organisations agreed that Ibu Marsinah should be a national hero. And I am honoured to make her a national hero,” Prabowo said.

The visit by Prabowo to Marsinah’s grave is a symbol of respect for the struggle of a female labourer whose name continues to live on in the memories of many workers in Indonesia.
