Prabowo Visits Earthquake-Affected Residents in Nagekeo, NTT
President Prabowo Subianto directly visited residents affected by the magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday (26/8). The visit aimed to ensure that emergency handling and government support for affected communities are running optimally.
President Prabowo arrived via Komodo International Airport in Labuan Bajo before continuing his journey to Nagekeo Regency to observe conditions on the ground and the evacuation sites following the Flores earthquake.
At the location, the Head of State chaired a coordination meeting at the NTT Natural Disaster Management Post of Kodam IX/Udayana in Nagekeo. The President was accompanied by Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian, and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Also present were NTT Governor Melki Laka Lena and heads of affected regions.
Based on data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) as of Tuesday (25/8/2026), the number of fatalities from the M 7.7 earthquake in the NTT region has increased to 103 people. By gender, the fatalities comprised 45 percent male and 55 percent female. By age group, the deceased included 45 percent elderly, 37 percent adults, 12 percent children and adolescents, and the remainder toddlers and infants.
In addition to the fatalities, BNPB confirmed that 1,666 residents were injured. East Manggarai Regency recorded the highest number of injuries, with 239 people seriously injured and 404 people lightly injured. BNPB continues to update casualty data periodically as additional reports come in from posts in earthquake-affected areas.
President Prabowo Subianto responded positively to a proposal from BNPB Head Suharyanto to build logistics warehouses at each Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to accelerate disaster relief. BNPB has confirmed that logistics stocks for the NTT earthquake are sufficient, with the main challenge now shifting to last-mile distribution to independent evacuation sites in remote areas. BNPB is also conducting aerial surveys following the M7.7 earthquake in NTT to map affected areas and prepare logistics distribution to hard-to-reach locations.
