President Prabowo Subianto commenced his visit to the United States on Monday, 16 February 2026. According to an official statement from the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo and a limited entourage departed for Washington, D.C. from the Indonesian Air Force’s Halim Perdanakusuma Base in East Jakarta.

On this working visit, the Head of State is accompanied by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Prabowo is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with US President Donald John Trump. The summit is planned to discuss the strengthening of Indonesia-United States relations and strategic cooperation across various fields.

“This visit is part of Indonesia’s active diplomacy to strengthen the nation’s position amid global geopolitical dynamics,” the Presidential Secretariat stated on Monday, 16 February 2026.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said Prabowo is scheduled to sign a reciprocal trade tariff agreement between Indonesia and the United States. The agenda is planned to take place around the same time as the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace initiated by US President Trump on 19 February.

“The President plans to attend the event on the 19th, and around that date there will also be a plan to sign the ART, or Agreement on Reciprocal Tariff,” Airlangga said following a limited cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon, 11 February 2026.

Nevertheless, Airlangga declined to disclose the tariff figures ultimately agreed upon, saying only that further developments should be awaited.

In early April 2025, Indonesia was subject to import tariffs of 32 per cent imposed by the United States. The Indonesian government’s tariff negotiation team subsequently conducted intensive talks with the US government. As a result, in July 2025, US President Donald Trump announced a reciprocal tariff for Indonesia of 19 per cent.

The reciprocal trade tariff negotiations encompass issues of market access for US products, non-tariff barriers, the digital economy, economic security, as well as commercial cooperation and investment.

Separately, Indonesia officially joined the Board of Peace initiated by US President Donald Trump on Thursday, 22 January 2026. President Prabowo personally signed the Board of Peace charter on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland.

The White House is planning to host the first leaders-level summit of the Board of Peace on 19 February 2026. The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Institute of Peace in Washington. The summit is intended to advance the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire and to mobilise funds for the reconstruction of war-affected Palestinian territories.
