Prabowo: Vesak Day Message Urges Strengthening Spirit of Service to the Nation

JAKARTA — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has extended greetings to all Buddhists celebrating Vesak Day 2570 Buddhist Era (BE). “On this Vesak Day, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, personally and on behalf of the government, extend my warm wishes to all Indonesian Buddhists and Buddhists worldwide,” Prabowo said in a statement from the Presidential Secretariat on Sunday evening, 31 May 2026. Prabowo emphasised that the spirit of this year’s Vesak could inspire all segments of the nation in fostering national unity and statehood. He also stressed that Indonesia is a great nation due to its diversity. However, he underscored that despite diversity, all Indonesians are united by the shared goal of building a better homeland. “Indonesia is a great nation because of its diversity. We have different ethnicities, religions, cultures, traditions, and customs, yet we are united by a common vision: to build a peaceful, just, prosperous, and harmonious Indonesia,” Prabowo stated. Prabowo also reminded the importance of maintaining unity and optimism amid global dynamics. “Amid the world’s growing challenges and uncertainties, Indonesia must remain steadfast in unity and optimism. We must continue to work hard, support one another, and collaborate to achieve prosperity for all Indonesians,” he said. In line with this, Prabowo noted that the values inherent in Vesak Day celebrations offer valuable lessons. These values, he said, are also crucial foundations for strengthening the nation’s character. “I am confident that the values of compassion, tolerance, and wisdom taught in Buddhism will further strengthen Indonesia’s character as a nation upholding humanity and peace,” Prabowo added. “Let us use this Vesak Day celebration as an opportunity to strengthen national brotherhood, reinforce the spirit of service to the nation, and increase compassion for one another,” he said. Prabowo also expressed hope that the noble values of Vesak Day would continue to guide the nation’s development journey. “May the light of wisdom, peace, and compassion always illuminate our steps in building a progressive, modern, strong, and harmonious Indonesia,” the Head of State concluded.
