Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto used the Maung light tactical vehicle when attending the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, on 7-8 May 2026. “For the first time, upon landing abroad, President Prabowo was greeted with the Maung vehicle, Indonesia’s pride, a product of national defence industry development,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy when confirmed by ANTARA on Thursday. Teddy stated that President Prabowo arrived in Cebu on Thursday afternoon to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit and was greeted using the Maung vehicle, which is a product of Indonesia’s national defence industry development. He mentioned that the use of the Maung abroad serves as a symbol of national self-reliance, national confidence, and the progress of Indonesia’s national industry in international forums. “The use of the Maung in international forums is not merely a means of transportation, but as a symbol of self-reliance, national confidence, and the progress of Indonesia’s national industry. The Maung becomes a symbol of diplomacy,” said Teddy. He explained that the Maung vehicle was developed since Prabowo served as Minister of Defence, and its production at PT Pindad has reached more than 3,200 units. Teddy said the vehicle has been used in various operations and needs domestically. “President Prabowo has also used the Maung since being inaugurated as President of the Republic of Indonesia on 20 October 2024,” he said. Previously, President Prabowo arrived in Cebu, Philippines, on Thursday at 13:48 local time to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit on 7-8 May 2026. The Head of State is scheduled to attend one of the agendas of the 48th ASEAN Summit, namely the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit, which is a strategic forum to strengthen connectivity and sub-regional economic cooperation in ASEAN. During the visit, Prabowo is scheduled to discuss strengthening cooperation between ASEAN countries, including efforts to address current global dynamics. Several other issues to be discussed include global developments impacting the region, including efforts to maintain energy resilience and strengthen coordination in responding to geopolitical dynamics. The meeting of ASEAN leaders is also expected to strengthen regional collaboration in maintaining stability, economic growth, and strategic cooperation in various sectors.
