Prabowo Uses Maung Garuda During Overseas Visit

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto drew attention upon arriving in Cebu, Philippines, to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit on Thursday (7/5/2026). It was not due to the convoy of luxury cars, but rather because Prabowo opted to use the Maung MV3 Garuda Limousine produced by PT Pindad as the official vehicle during the state agenda. This marks the first time the Maung has been used by President Prabowo on an overseas visit. Meanwhile, other ASEAN leaders were provided with luxury bulletproof sedans for their transport. “For the first time, upon landing abroad, President Prabowo was picked up with the Maung vehicle, a pride of the Indonesian nation, a product of national defence industry development,” stated the Cabinet Secretariat’s caption on its official Instagram on Thursday. “While in the Philippines, the President will use this vehicle known as a tough light tactical vehicle,” it continued. The car used by Prabowo is the MV3 Garuda Limousine, the latest variant from the Maung family developed by PT Pindad. This vehicle measures 5.05 metres in length, 2.06 metres in width, and 1.87 metres in height, with a weight of 2.95 tonnes. For its powertrain, the Maung Garuda is equipped with a 2,200 cc engine producing 199 horsepower, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Its top speed is claimed to reach 100 km/h. Security aspects are also a primary focus. The body material uses composite armour capable of withstanding shots from 7.62 x 51 mm NATO and 5.56 x 45 mm M193 ammunition. The Cabinet Secretariat stated that the use of the Maung at an international forum is not merely a means of transportation, but a symbol of Indonesia’s independence and progress in the national industry.
