Prabowo Urges Officials to Join 'Indonesia ASRI' Movement: Don't Be a 'Salon General'
President Prabowo Subianto has asked all parties, including the generals, to join the Indonesia Aman, Sehat, Resik, dan Indah (ASRI) — Safe, Healthy, Clean and Beautiful — movement that he initiated, reminding them not to become ‘salon generals’.
He made the remarks during a speech at the mass handover ceremony for the Sejahtera subsidised mortgage programme under the Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (FLPP) scheme, held in Batang, Central Java, on Thursday (30/7/2026). The Indonesia ASRI programme is a national movement launched by Prabowo Subianto at the start of 2026, aiming to build a culture of clean, orderly and healthy living through collaboration between the government and society.
Prabowo initially instructed Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman and Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni, asking them to handle the preparation of tree nurseries.
“If the number of trees has greatly diminished, we shall plant hundreds of millions of trees. Minister of Agriculture, I am asking you, Minister of Forestry, to set up nurseries — I need good quality tree seedlings for all of our cities and regencies,” Prabowo said.
Prabowo then issued instructions to the entire apparatus, including those holding the rank of general. He likened a general’s trousers to needing to be dirty from frequently going down into communities to maintain cleanliness.
“Commanders, generals — do not become salon generals who only want to stay clean. Every now and then a general’s boots must be dirty, and if necessary his trousers must be dirty up to the knees. But do not dirty your boots when meeting the president. That was the practice of the old days — do not, do not follow it,” he said.
