President Prabowo Subianto has reminded all government officials not to hold extravagant Eid al-Fitr open houses for 1447 Hijri. The Head of State requested that officials organise modest Eid celebrations.

“We must also set an example with open houses and such; they should not be too extravagant,” said Prabowo during a Full Cabinet Session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.

The former Defence Minister reminded officials that there are still communities in need of assistance due to natural disasters. Therefore, all officials are expected to demonstrate empathy.

“Our colleagues in disaster-affected areas and in this situation we should set an example for the people,” he said.

However, Prabowo cautioned that officials should not refrain from holding events entirely, as these activities help the economy to function.

“But we also should not go to extremes; we cannot close down all events completely, because if we do, our economy will not function either,” he added.

Additionally, Prabowo requested that the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) participate in securing the 2026 Eid exodus by coordinating with relevant ministries.

“I also ask the TNI Commander and National Police Chief to mobilise the facilities and resources of the TNI and Polri to assist with the smooth flow of the exodus. The Navy and Army possibly have ships that could be made available and coordinated with the Transport Minister,” said Prabowo.

“I also believe the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia have assets and facilities that could assist,” he added.

Furthermore, he requested that the Transport Ministry ensure the smooth implementation of discounted ticket prices for aeroplanes, trains, ships, and tolls. He also urged maximum service quality for travellers during the exodus.

“I ask the Transport Minister to ensure that the policy of ticket price discounts can be implemented as well as possible, including discounts for aeroplane, train, ship, and toll tickets, and to ensure good service at every location,” he said.

Additionally, he requested that the Social Ministry distribute food assistance to 35 million beneficiary families on time.
