Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has asked all elements of the state apparatus, from bureaucrats and military officials to the police and the prosecutor’s office, to engage in self-reflection in carrying out their duties and responsibilities to the people.

“I ask that we reflect on ourselves, especially the bureaucrats. I see many bureaucrats here. Bureaucrats must reflect, we must all reflect. Military and police officials must reflect,” said Prabowo at the inauguration of five dams centred on the Meninting Dam in West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Friday.

In his address, the President reminded state officials that they are servants of the public, and that all the facilities and positions attached to them come from the people.

“You belong to the people. Your stars come from the people, your shoes come from the people, your cap comes from the people. Never forget that. The same goes for the prosecutor’s office. You are a prosecutor, aren’t you? You wear stars too. You too belong to the people,” said Prabowo.

The Head of State also asked all state officials in government, the bureaucracy, ministries and agencies to carry out improvements and self-examination, and not to defy the will of the people, who want a government that is clean of corrupt practices and fraud.

“To the state apparatus, to state officials in government, in the bureaucracy, in every ministry, in every institution, let us collectively sort ourselves out and improve ourselves,” said Prabowo.

“I do not want to look back, but I ask you to improve yourselves and be introspective. Do not defy the will of the people. The people do not want corruption to be tolerated; the people do not want fraud to continue,” he affirmed.

Furthermore, Prabowo stated that the various achievements the government has made in a short period have been met with numerous challenges, including resistance from groups he referred to as corruptors.

The President emphasised that law enforcement against corruption offences must continue to be carried out in accordance with applicable legal procedures.

According to Prabowo, the law must be enforced fairly and must apply to all parties without discrimination based on a person’s position, power or economic background.

“Sometimes, when I face these corrupt thieves, that is how it feels, but it must be done according to legal procedure. Yes, we shall carry it out, we shall enforce the law, and the law is for everyone, not only for the powerful, not only for the rich,” asserted Prabowo.
