President Prabowo Subianto has asked 1,177 newly commissioned young officers of the TNI and Polri to master artificial intelligence (AI), technology and foreign languages in order to strengthen Indonesia’s defences and safeguard the nation.

In his address at the 2026 TNI and Polri Prasetya Perwira (Officer’s Oath) Ceremony at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, Prabowo said the officers must continue developing their capabilities to face increasingly complex security challenges.

“Comrades, as the successor generation you are the front line for achieving our aspirations and protecting the nation and state. Master science and technology, master artificial intelligence, cyber systems, unmanned technology, and foreign languages,” said Prabowo.

The President reminded the audience that competition between nations is now increasingly fierce. Threats to sovereignty come not only through military force, but also through cyber warfare, information technology, transnational crime and various other forms of threats.

According to Prabowo, TNI and Polri officers must excel in character, discipline, leadership, as well as mastery of science and technology in order to carry out their duty of protecting the nation.

“The TNI and Polri must be strong. The TNI and Polri must be professional. The TNI and Polri must together safeguard the Indonesian nation,” he said.

Earlier, President Prabowo commissioned 1,177 cadets from the TNI Academy and the Police Academy as young officers of the TNI and Polri during the Prasetya Perwira Ceremony at the Merdeka Palace.

The newly commissioned officers comprised 512 from the Indonesian Army, 229 from the Indonesian Navy, 154 from the Indonesian Air Force, and 282 from the National Police.

On that occasion, the President also pinned rank insignia on four recipients of the Adhi Makayasa award: Calvin Tidar Sakti from the Military Academy, Muhammad Rizqi Wira Utama Baihaqi Putra from the Naval Academy, Yehezkiel Bonaventura Yudaniarman from the Air Force Academy, and Harindra Arsandho Tegarbaja from the Police Academy.
