Prabowo Urges Faster Conversion of LPG Stoves to Electric Stoves to Reduce Import Dependence
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto has asked for the conversion of LPG stoves to electric stoves to be accelerated.
The request was conveyed at a limited meeting with Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto, and Danantara Rosan Roeslani, head of the Presidential Staff Office, at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, 5 March 2026.
“We have been asked (President Prabowo) to accelerate how electric stoves can replace LPG stoves,” Brian said after the limited meeting on Thursday.
This policy is also aimed at reducing the subsidy burden borne by the state each year.
“We know that given current high fuel prices, the impact is very significant. So the President has asked the ministers involved to accelerate the implementation so that our dependence on imports, and our exposure to potentially volatile prices, can be reduced,” Brian said.
In this regard, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikti Saintek) will support it with university research.
“We from universities will back the research and its studies,” Brian added.
He was given a mandate by President Prabowo to act as coordinator or head of the task force.
Prabowo wants clean energy to be implemented in Indonesia within 3-4 years.
“The President is very keen on its implementation being carried out promptly, and God willing we will proceed within a short timeframe. The President previously stated that a maximum of three to four years, and perhaps even sooner,” said Bahlil.
