Prabowo Urges Economic Development Beyond Statistics
President Prabowo Subianto cautioned that economic development must not be confined to mere statistics. He stated that it must have widespread benefits for all Indonesian citizens.
“Economic development must not merely produce statistics but deliver a better life for all Indonesians,” Prabowo said at the Pancasila Birthday Ceremony in Jakarta on Monday (1 June).
Prabowo asserted that all Indonesians must have equal access without exception, and that all Indonesian children are entitled to adequate nutrition.
He stated that Indonesian farmers must be able to obtain fertiliser promptly and at fair prices.
“Fishermen must gain fair market access and be empowered, as they are vital protein producers,” he added.
He also noted that Indonesian workers must have decent livelihoods and earnings.
“It cannot merely benefit a select few; for too long, the prices of our natural resources have been dictated by others, abroad,” he said.
Prabowo served as the ceremony’s inspecting officer at the Pancasila Birthday event held at Jakarta’s Pancasila Building.
Pancasila Birthday is commemorated annually on 1 June, marking the anniversary of Sukarno’s speech outlining the nation’s foundational philosophy during the BPUPKI session on 1 June 1945.
Attendees included Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, former President Megawati Sukarnoputri, and former Vice Presidents Jusuf Kalla (10th and 12th).
Also present were members of the Red and White Cabinet, including Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, and Coordinating Minister for Law and Human Rights Yusril Ihza Mahendra.
