Prabowo Urges Completion of Labour Law This Year: It Must Favour Workers
I have also instructed the Minister of Manpower and the Minister of Law to promptly work with the House of Representatives to complete the labour law draft, ideally this year. And that law must favour the working class; we hope our laws guarantee justice for all Indonesian people,” said Prabowo at the May Day commemoration in 2026 at Monas on Friday (1/5/2026).
Prabowo stated that this year the government is providing protection for low-income citizens worth Rp500 trillion. The government has also raised the minimum wage and provided subsidised housing.
On that occasion, Prabowo also discussed the enactment of the Domestic Workers Protection Law. Prabowo noted that domestic workers have never been paid clear wages.
“If I’m not mistaken, this is a long struggle, a 22-year struggle; even since the republic was founded, there has never been a Domestic Workers Protection Law,” said Prabowo.
“So far, domestic workers have been paid unclear wages. Now, for the first time in the history of the Republic of Indonesia, we have enacted the Domestic Workers Protection Law,” he added.
Prabowo once again expressed thanks for being invited to speak amidst the labour masses. For Prabowo, workers, farmers, and fishermen possess honesty.
“What saddens me is that more and more people are getting unclear ranks. I’m amazed; the smarter they get, the more clever thieves there are; I can’t fathom it,” said Prabowo.
