Prabowo Urges Cabinet to Avoid Lavish Eid Open Houses
President Prabowo Subianto has asked ministers, heads of institutions, and members of the Red and White Cabinet not to hold open house celebrations in a lavish manner during Eid al-Fitr. This appeal was delivered during the Plenary Cabinet Session at Istana Negara, Jakarta, on Friday.
President Prabowo has insisted that officials must set an example of simplicity to society. “I believe I should set an example—open house events or something similar should not be overly fancy. We are already dealing with a disaster and in this atmosphere we should set an example for the people,” Prabowo said.
However, President Prabowo has not completely prohibited open house events, seeking to maintain economic activity. He reminded that such events should be held simply so as not to curtail activities that can stimulate the economy.
Additionally, President Prabowo cautioned the public against being swayed by negative narratives that depict the national economic condition as being in a poor state. According to him, various indicators demonstrate the Indonesian economy remains on a strong path.
In his remarks, Prabowo addressed the community undertaking the homecoming tradition. He expressed hope that people can make the journey safely and remain secure while in their hometowns. “For those planning to return, I say in advance, have a safe homecoming and look after one another at home,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, President Prabowo called on the entire cabinet to continue working responsibly and maintain public confidence in the government, whilst ensuring economic stability ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
