Prabowo urges cabinet members to set example by avoiding lavish open house celebrations
President Prabowo Subianto has called on ministers, agency heads, and members of the Red and White Cabinet to avoid hosting lavish open house celebrations during Eid al-Fitr celebrations, given the current national disasters and global economic challenges.
During a full Cabinet session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday, President Prabowo urged his team to set an example of simplicity for the public by exercising restraint in their Eid festivities.
“I believe we must set an example — whether with open houses or otherwise, we should not be extravagant. We are already in the midst of disaster, and in these circumstances we must set an example for the people. However, we also should not completely shut down our activities, because if we do, our economy will suffer,” said President Prabowo.
The President also cautioned the public against being easily swayed by narratives portraying Indonesia’s economic condition as dire.
The Head of State noted that various indicators demonstrate that Indonesia’s economy remains on a strong trajectory.
“For those who will be returning home for the holidays, I wish you a safe journey and ask that you take care of yourselves and your families at home,” President Prabowo said.
Concluding his remarks, President Prabowo called on all cabinet members to continue working with full responsibility and maintain public trust in government, whilst ensuring economic stability remains secure ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
