Prabowo urges BRICS to transform vulnerabilities into economic strength
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has encouraged BRICS nations to transform various vulnerabilities into opportunities and strengths to build a stronger and more equitable economy.
“Our resilience must benefit our people. And to benefit our people, we must be able to transform our vulnerabilities into opportunities. Our weaknesses into strengths,” said Prabowo during the 2026 BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, India, on Sunday.
According to an official statement from the Bureau of Press, Media, and Information (BPMI) of the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo stated that resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability must be directed towards building a stronger and fairer economy that provides tangible benefits to society.
During the BRICS Summit session themed “Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth,” Prabowo noted that Indonesia understands the various challenges faced by BRICS nations.
As an archipelagic nation located within the Ring of Fire, Indonesia faces numerous challenges, including rising sea levels, extreme weather, and volcanic activity. However, Indonesia also possesses vast terrestrial and marine wealth that can serve as a foundation for future development.
“Our land and seas also hold many things that will serve as the foundation for the future. Critical minerals, rare earths, renewable resources for clean and high technology, as well as forests that provide the world with breath. The same applies across BRICS,” said Prabowo.
He assessed that BRICS nations possess immense strength because, together, they control a significant portion of the world’s critical minerals and energy resources, which can serve as the foundation for development in the green economy era.
“We have everything that serves as the foundation for the green century. That is why, when disasters strike, we must view them as something more than just disasters. We must see the close link between climate resilience and national development,” he remarked.
Prabowo stated that Indonesia, BRICS nations, and many Global South countries face similar and interconnected issues, necessitating cooperation to overcome them.
According to him, the unification of resources, production capacity, technological capability, and the markets held by BRICS nations can have a massive impact on the world.
“When we face these challenges together, we also unite resources, productive capacity, technological capability, and markets in very large quantities. Unify them all, and BRICS can make a real and significant difference to the world,” he said.
