JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has urged leaders of ASEAN countries to unite in upholding international law in response to every violation that occurs, including in the Middle East conflict.

“We must demand that all parties uphold international law and advance accountability for violations,” Prabowo stated during the plenary session of the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, on Friday (8/4/2026).

According to Prabowo, ASEAN must remain united to demonstrate its strength amid rising global tensions.

Prabowo also mentioned the incident involving the death of TNI soldiers who were carrying out a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.

He stated that the incident serves as a reminder that the duties of global peacekeepers must be respected by all parties.

“We have lost Indonesian soldiers serving with the United Nations, and we demand accountability that peacekeeping duties must be respected by all parties,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo emphasised that the protection of citizens must be the top priority for ASEAN countries.

He also appreciated Singapore’s offer to assist in evacuation processes if necessary.

“The protection of citizens must remain the top priority. I welcome Singapore’s offer to collaborate with other countries if we need to evacuate our citizens,” Prabowo said.
