Prabowo: UN Predicts Global Hunger Threat, Indonesia Begins Exports Instead

President Prabowo Subianto has stated that Indonesia is currently in a strong position in the food sector, revealing that the country is now able to export agricultural products to other nations. According to Prabowo, this situation is the reverse of the United Nations’ warning regarding the threat of a global food crisis and hunger. At a time when many countries are facing food challenges, Indonesia actually has a surplus that can help meet the needs of other nations.

“The UN has already predicted the threat of world hunger. Now we are actually starting to export. We are helping other countries,” Prabowo said at the peak event of the XVII National Farmers and Fishermen Week in Gorontalo on Wednesday (24/6/2026).

Prabowo disclosed that he received a telephone call from the Prime Minister of Australia, who expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s fertiliser surplus. The Australian government also requested that Indonesia sell fertiliser to them. “I was called by the Prime Minister of Australia. He expressed gratitude because Indonesia has a fertiliser surplus and they asked us to sell fertiliser to them,” he stated.

Besides Australia, Prabowo mentioned that many other countries have also requested fertiliser and rice supplies from Indonesia. However, he stressed that exports must be conducted with the interests of domestic farmers in mind. “I said, send it to them. Many countries are asking for fertiliser from us. Many countries are asking for rice from us. As long as the price is right. Yes, Minister of Agriculture?” he remarked.

Prabowo then emphasised that farmers must not be disadvantaged by food commodity export policies. He urged that the benefits of increased global demand should also be felt by Indonesian farmers. “Farmers must not lose out. Is that right? How is it now, are farmers making enough profit? Not yet? Do you want more profit? Of course,” he said.
