Prabowo: Trust Your Leaders, Social Media Is Not Always True

President Prabowo Subianto has stated that information circulating on social media cannot be immediately trusted, noting a modern tendency for people to readily believe what they see on these platforms. He warned that social media can be manipulated by individuals with significant financial resources. “There is a disease, not just in our country but in the world, social media. It can be exploited. People with money can play games on social media,” he said during the inauguration of five dams in West Nusa Tenggara on Friday, 10 July 2026. Therefore, Prabowo urged the public not to be easily fooled by what is spread on social media. “Stories on social media are not necessarily the true story. The people must not be deceived,” he said. The Gerindra Party chairman said it is better for the public to trust the legitimate government. “Trust the leader you have chosen,” Prabowo stated. On the other hand, Prabowo also urged leaders not to lie to their people. He said a leader who frequently lies is a disaster for the people. During the event in West Lombok on Friday, Prabowo inaugurated the Meninting Dam in West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara. Through this event, he also simultaneously inaugurated five dams in three other provinces. Prabowo said the construction of dams requires time, money, and resources. The process, he said, can be completed only after several presidents have succeeded one another. “I am grateful that I am the one to inaugurate this dam,” he said. The five dams inaugurated by Prabowo are the Meninting Dam in NTB, the Keureuto Dam and Rukoh Dam in Aceh, the Jlantah Dam in Central Java Province, and the Sidan Dam in Bali. The projects were built between 2015 and 2025. The Gerindra Party chairman revealed that the construction of the five dams cost Rp 9.79 trillion. “The five dams we inaugurate today are a state investment,” Prabowo said.
