Prabowo Trials New Nusantara Explorer Luxury Train
President Prabowo Subianto has trialled the new premium Nusantara Explorer train service. The luxury train is the latest offering from state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI). Prabowo boarded the Nusantara Explorer after inaugurating the restoration of the Tawang Station cultural heritage site in Semarang, Central Java, continuing his journey to Batang. “Today I will try the new train launched by KAI to support and boost tourism, named the Nusantara Explorer,” the Gerindra Party chairman said before boarding on Thursday, 30 July 2026, as broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat. The Nusantara Explorer is a luxury sleeper train offering a premium travel experience. According to PT KAI, two units have currently completed their interior fitting-out at the Surabaya Gubeng railway workshop. The train’s concept combines various premium service aspects, including private resting spaces, personal service, culinary offerings, entertainment facilities, and large windows to enjoy the landscape throughout the journey. The Nusantara Explorer features three categories of sleeping cabins: the Signature Class, which offers more spacious rooms and private facilities; the Advanced Class, which provides sleeping quarters with efficient cabin arrangement; and the Compact Class, which features a more streamlined rest area design. In addition to the sleeping cabins, the Nusantara Explorer is designed with a grand restaurant serving as the culinary hub. A lounge is also provided for relaxation and social interaction, complete with sofas, a bar, a piano, and an audio system. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that President Prabowo participated in the trial run of the Nusantara Explorer. “President Prabowo boarded the Nusantara Explorer train to Batang to conduct a trial. This train is a manifestation of the President’s desire for KAI to have a passenger train service that is beautiful, elegant, and comfortable for the public,” Teddy said.
