Prabowo Trials KAI's Luxurious Nusantara Explorer Train

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI, has introduced the Nusantara Explorer, a tourist train developed based on the idea and direct order of President Prabowo Subianto. This development is part of efforts to strengthen national tourism through rail-based transportation that offers a distinctly Indonesian travel experience. Prabowo used the Nusantara Explorer during a state travel agenda on Thursday (30/7/2026). The moment marked the arrival of a travel concept that combines comfort, service, cultural richness, cuisine, and Indonesian panoramas in a single train set. KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that the Nusantara Explorer is a follow-up to the President’s idea and order to present a tourist train service capable of strengthening Indonesia’s tourism competitiveness. Bobby noted that the Nusantara Explorer was born from Prabowo’s idea and order for KAI to present a tourist train that provides a classy travel experience while introducing the richness of Indonesian culture. ‘We followed up on this order through the capabilities and creativity of KAI personnel at the Balai Yasa Surabaya Gubeng,’ Bobby said in a written statement in Jakarta on Thursday (30/7/2026). Bobby explained that the entire development and modification process of the Nusantara Explorer was carried out at Balai Yasa Surabaya Gubeng. The train set is designed to consist of 12 carriages, including sleeping cars, a Grand Restaurant, a lounge, and operational support carriages. Bobby elaborated that the sleeping cabin concept is developed in three categories: Signature Class, Advance Class, and Compact Class. Each offers a different spatial composition and level of privacy to suit customer needs. ‘The Grand Restaurant is designed as a culinary service space with table settings and private dining rooms,’ Bobby said.
