Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to France was to fulfil a delayed invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron.

“This is an invitation from Macron that was previously delayed,” Sugiono said in a video statement received by Kompas.com on Wednesday (27 May 2026).

However, the schedules of both heads of state did not align at the time, preventing the agenda from proceeding.

He added that Macron reiterated the invitation when Prabowo visited Paris for a previous meeting.

During that encounter, Macron proposed a new schedule for the state visit.

“As it has been requested twice, this is the second time, the President is fulfilling the invitation and attending in Paris for a state visit, as a reciprocal visit to Macron’s earlier trip to Indonesia,” Sugiono explained.

It was previously reported that President Prabowo Subianto of the Republic of Indonesia conducted a working visit to Paris, the French Republic, on Tuesday (26 May 2026).

The working visit aimed to strengthen the Indonesia-France Strategic Partnership, which has continued to develop through the intensity of relations and closeness between the two presidents.

Moreover, both leaders have held several previous meetings on 14 July 2025, 23 January 2026, and 14 April 2026.
