Prabowo to Visit Nagekeo, Basarnas Chief and NTT Governor Inspect Earthquake Post Readiness

Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Air Marshal Mohammad Syafii, together with Governor of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena, inspected the Flores Earthquake Victim Evacuation Post at Berdikari Field, Danga Village, Aesesa District, Nagekeo Regency, NTT, on Wednesday (26/8).

The inspection was carried out to ensure the condition of the evacuees and the readiness of handling at the post were running optimally, as well as to ensure the preparedness of relevant elements ahead of the working visit of President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto to Nagekeo Regency on the same day.

During the visit, the Basarnas chief and the NTT Governor visited a number of facilities in the evacuation area and held dialogue with the evacuees. Both also greeted children participating in activities at the ‘Pondok Ceria’ psychosocial facility established by the Ministry of Social Affairs as part of efforts to provide support and assistance for children affected by the disaster.

‘The Rescue Team from the Maumere SAR Office has been present in Nagekeo since the first day the earthquake occurred. To this day, the team remains on standby and coordinates with the Nagekeo Regional Government to support the handling of the earthquake’s impact, particularly in preparedness and the evacuation process for victims,’ said Syafii at the Berdikari Evacuation Post, in a press release received by detikBali.

In addition to ensuring the readiness of SAR elements, the Basarnas chief and the NTT Governor also held dialogue with students from Nusa Cendana University (Undana) who were involved in humanitarian assistance activities at the evacuation site. Both expressed appreciation for the students’ contribution in helping communities affected by the disaster.

The inspection then continued with a visit to the Nagekeo Police Station. The entourage transited while preparing the series of agenda items for welcoming the working visit of President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto in Nagekeo Regency.

The presence of SAR elements at the evacuation site is part of efforts to ensure preparedness is maintained. ‘As well as supporting the regional government in providing a sense of security and the best service for communities affected by the earthquake,’ he concluded.
