Prabowo to Visit Japan from 29-31 March, Meeting the Emperor and PM
President Prabowo Subianto is set to visit Japan in the near future. Prabowo is scheduled to meet Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
The Japanese Embassy stated that Japan is ready to welcome Prabowo’s arrival to enhance relations between the two countries. Indonesia is a major partner for Japan in the East Asia region and maintains broad relations, both economically, culturally, and politically.
“Japan and Indonesia have established a comprehensive strategic partnership. We warmly welcome Mr Prabowo’s visit to Japan,” said Director of the Japanese Information and Culture Centre, Hoshino Daisuke, on the sidelines of an event farewelling recipients of Japanese government scholarships organised by the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta, as reported by Antara on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
According to him, Prabowo and PM Sanae Takaichi will discuss a wide range of issues. This is because the two countries have many joint projects.
“Therefore, we want to use this opportunity to further strengthen the already strong relations between Japan and Indonesia,” said Hoshino.
Quoted from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, the President of Indonesia will conduct an official visit to Japan on 29-31 March 2026. During the visit, Prabowo will attend a state luncheon with the Emperor of Japan and hold bilateral meetings with PM Sanae Takaichi.
Prabowo’s visit will be his first official trip to Japan as President of Indonesia. Previously, Prabowo visited Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, in a personal capacity in September 2025.
