Prabowo to utilise recycled plastic waste roof tiles for the Gentengisasi programme
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto will include roof tiles made from processed plastic waste in the budget for the national housing repair assistance programme, which also encompasses gentengisasi or housing initiatives.
“The roof tiles are quite effective, reportedly inexpensive, and this could potentially be included in our budget for housing repairs. The current housing repair budget is Rp20 million per house,” said Prabowo after visiting the Environmentally and Educationally Based Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST BLE) in Banyumas Regency, Central Java, on Tuesday, as monitored from the YouTube video broadcast of the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta.
The President detailed that out of the total Rp20 million housing repair budget, the component for roof tiles made from processed waste is estimated at Rp4-5 million. The use of this material is seen as a step to reduce renovation costs for low-income households.
Prabowo also emphasised the importance of transitioning from old roofing materials that could harm residents’ health. The government plans to gradually reduce the use of corrugated iron in various people’s housing projects in the future.
“We want to eliminate the use of rusty corrugated iron, as rust ultimately poses health risks to occupants, and it also looks unsightly,” stated the President.
According to the President, housing with rusty corrugated iron roofs can damage the environmental aesthetics while also affecting residents’ health. The use of processed waste roof tiles is considered capable of creating settlements that are far more beautiful and comfortable to live in.
Prabowo conveyed the vision behind the policy as restoring Indonesia’s image as a truly beautiful country for its inhabitants. The integration of waste processing and the provision of decent housing is viewed as a dual solution to social and environmental problems.
The plastic roof tile products have been tested and used in several public facilities in Banyumas Regency.
Previously, the President inspected the TPST BLE facility in Wlahar Wetan Village, Banyumas, which has a processing capacity of up to 75 tonnes per day using automatic sorting technology.
The President hopes that the development of this technology can accelerate independent environmental problem management. The national focus on waste processing is also aimed at improving quality of life and public health across Indonesia.
