Prabowo to US Businesspeople: Let's Make Money Together
President Prabowo Subianto invited American business leaders to invest in Indonesia during a business summit at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, 18 February 2026 local time.
Speaking before the American business community, Prabowo stressed the importance of mutually beneficial strategic economic cooperation. "I believe in what I learned from American businesspeople: 'Let's make money together.' Win-win. Everyone profits, everyone benefits," Prabowo said.
The head of state revealed that his background as a businessman had given him the perspective to understand investors' needs, adding that he was familiar with the dynamics of the business world. "Before I entered politics, I was also a businessman. That is why I think I can understand the business community with greater empathy," Prabowo said.
The Gerindra Party chairman also stated his commitment to creating a healthy investment climate in Indonesia. "I think I have proven that the Indonesian government and I personally always strive to protect our investors, to be good hosts, and to create the best atmosphere for investors," Prabowo said.
Indonesia, Prabowo claimed, is committed to maintaining its investment climate through regulatory certainty, law enforcement, and good governance. For Prabowo, these factors are key to attracting foreign investment.
"For business leaders, certainty is the most important thing. Nobody wants to invest in a situation or atmosphere filled with uncertainty, instability, or even chaos," Prabowo said.
On the same occasion, Prabowo also affirmed Indonesia's position as an attractive and noteworthy investment destination. He noted that Indonesia possesses natural resources that are not only abundant but also strategically significant.
However, he said, Indonesia's investment appeal does not stop there. The country is currently accelerating industrialisation, opening up new investment opportunities across various sectors. "We are very open to investment. We need investment and we want more investment. We are confident that we are competitive and attractive," Prabowo said.
Prabowo explained that in terms of natural resources, Indonesia holds reserves of critical minerals such as nickel, copper, and bauxite — essential raw materials for technology. "I think we have strength in critical minerals. I have also received reports that Indonesia is one of the countries with the largest rare earth reserves in the world," Prabowo said.
On the industrialisation front, Prabowo said Indonesia is now focused on downstream processing of natural resources. He cited as an example that the Danantara Investment Management Agency (BPI) would initiate 18 downstream processing projects this year, including a waste-to-energy project worth US$3 billion, or approximately Rp50.4 trillion.
"We continue to advance in industrial downstream processing, where Danantara serves as the main driving force. We are moving very quickly in these sectors," he said.
