Prabowo to Undertake Working Visit to Japan and South Korea

President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to undertake a working visit to Japan on 29-31 March and to South Korea on 31 March-2 April. The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs website states that Prabowo is scheduled to attend a state luncheon with Emperor Naruhito of Japan. Additionally, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will hold a meeting with President Prabowo. The Japanese government has conveyed that Prabowo’s visit to Japan will be an opportunity for both countries to further strengthen their comprehensive and strategic partnership. “The Government of Japan sincerely welcomes President Prabowo’s visit,” stated the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This visit to Japan marks Prabowo’s first as President of Indonesia. Previously, in September 2025, Prabowo visited Expo 2025 Osaka in Kansai, Japan, on a personal basis. President Prabowo is then scheduled to continue his trip to South Korea. South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported that Prabowo will undertake a state visit from 31 March to 2 April 2026. The visit aims to discuss bilateral relations with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung. According to Yonhap, South Korean Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung stated in a written statement that the two leaders will discuss practical cooperation in various fields, including trade, investment, defence and security industries, intellectual property, infrastructure, shipbuilding, nuclear energy, energy transition, and the cultural sector. Furthermore, it is mentioned that President Prabowo and President Lee Jae Myung will discuss ways to enhance relations between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and South Korea. Subsequently, the two are planned to discuss the security situation and other global issues, including those related to the Korean Peninsula and West Asia.
