Prabowo to Soon Remove Silmy Karim from Deputy Minister Post
President Prabowo Subianto will soon remove Silmy Karim from his position as Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services (Wamen Imipas). State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi announced the move after Silmy became a suspect in an alleged corruption case and was detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
The government, according to Prasetyo, respects the ongoing legal process. “Regarding the positions held by those undergoing legal proceedings, action will be taken immediately in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” he told reporters on Thursday, 4 June 2026.
Prasetyo noted that the Presidential Palace has communicated with the Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Agus Andrianto. The Palace has requested that Silmy Karim’s detention does not disrupt immigration and correctional services.
The KPK alleges that the suspected corruption involving the processing of residence permits for foreign nationals occurred during Silmy Karim’s tenure as Director General of Immigration between 2023 and 2024. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that investigators found evidence of an alleged chain of orders and the receipt of funds during that period.
These findings served as the basis for the KPK to escalate the case from the investigation stage to the full criminal investigation stage, naming eight suspects. “The alleged flow of orders or the flow of money took place while the individual (Silmy) served as Director General,” said Budi at the KPK Red and White Building, South Jakarta, on Thursday, 4 June 2026.
The KPK conducted sting operations in Jakarta, Bandung, and Bali on 2-3 June 2026. During these operations, investigators detained 18 individuals. Budi stated that the KPK held a case exposure on Wednesday night before deciding to upgrade the case handling to the investigation stage.
Based on the results of the case exposure, the KPK has named eight individuals as suspects. Among them is Silmy Karim, who currently serves as the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services. “Furthermore, based on the sufficiency of evidence, the KPK has also named eight people as suspects from the total of 18 individuals apprehended during the sting operation,” said Budi.
