Prabowo to Singapore PM: If There Are Misunderstandings, We Will Resolve Them

President Prabowo Subianto has emphasised Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Singapore, stating that both nations share a common interest in maintaining regional stability and prosperity. Speaking at a joint press conference with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, Prabowo said, “As close neighbours, Indonesia and Singapore have become partners. We have common interests because we are in the same region, so stability and prosperity are in our mutual interest.” He added, “We understand that prosperity will never come without peace and stability.” Prabowo noted that prosperity cannot be achieved without peace and stability, and therefore both countries must continuously strive to maintain these conditions. “Peace and stability are continuous efforts we must undertake without rest. Stability and peace do not come by themselves,” he remarked. He added that Indonesia and Singapore have agreed to continue strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation to safeguard the interests of both nations. “We agree that our interests must be jointly protected and we must carry out continuous cooperation to benefit both parties,” he said. During the occasion, Prabowo also revealed that his meeting with PM Wong was intensive and productive, with discussions conducted openly and from the heart. “We have just held an intensive and very productive meeting, from the heart, open, and forward-looking,” he stated. Both leaders agreed that any future misunderstandings or differing perceptions would be resolved openly. “We agreed that if there are any misunderstandings or misperceptions, we will resolve them as friends, openly,” he said.
