Prabowo to Sign AI Regulations This Month, Here's the Leaked Details

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto will soon sign a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) roadmap. The draft is currently being discussed and is ready to be signed this month.

He explained that the regulation is not intended to control but to assist and enable growth.

“That is why we are creating what is called the first regulation regarding the AI Roadmap. Insha’Allah, it will be signed by the President this month. It is currently in the discussion process at the State Secretariat,” said Director General of Digital Ecosystem Edwin Hidayat Abdullah at the Tech & Telco Forum 2026, Wednesday (6/5/2026).

His side also highlighted the sectors most in need of AI and the acceleration programmes that require attention.

On the same occasion, he explained that the government is preparing connectivity infrastructure for AI. The 5G network currently being prepared is expected to accelerate AI adoption, which is still below 10%.

“Insha’Allah, it will add 5G which will accelerate AI adoption,” Edwin said.

The government, he added, is also preparing catalysts for AI use. The technology can be used to support programmes planned by the government.

“So that what the government aspires to can be achieved and supported by technology,” Edwin said.

“If catalysts are not created, then AI will play on the fringes. That could potentially breach ethics and seek loopholes,” he added.
