Prabowo to Reciprocate Visit of Belarusian President Lukashenko

President Prabowo Subianto has expressed his desire to visit Belarus. He conveyed the plan whilst receiving a state visit from Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Jakarta on Thursday, 2 June 2026. During the occasion, Prabowo expressed appreciation for the visit by Lukashenko and his delegation to Indonesia. He also conveyed his intention to reciprocate the visit to Belarus. “Of course, I will also return this visit,” said the Chairman of the Gerindra Party in a joint press statement at the Merdeka Palace. Prabowo believes the momentum of his meeting with Lukashenko will further strengthen the Indonesia-Belarus partnership. He hopes this cooperation can open wider opportunities with tangible results beneficial for both countries. Meanwhile, Lukashenko stated he felt very satisfied after meeting Prabowo. “After this visit, trade between the two countries will grow further. However, the most important thing is not merely trade, but technology transfer,” he said. He said Belarus may not be as large a country as Indonesia, but it has many things that Indonesia needs. “Not just the products we produce, but also the technology and experience we can share,” said Lukashenko. Prabowo, according to Lukashenko, has set various ambitious targets for Indonesia’s development. “Belarus is ready to be a partner in realising them,” said the man who has served as President of Belarus since 1994. Lukashenko arrived in Jakarta on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. He was welcomed by Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, East Jakarta. That evening, Lukashenko stayed at the State Palace, Jakarta. Foreign Minister Sugiono said staying at the Presidential Palace was Lukashenko’s wish. He said the Indonesian government fulfilled the request as a form of respect to the President. Other heads of state, Sugiono said, usually prefer to stay in hotels. “This time, he wished to be able to stay at the Palace,” said Sugiono. According to Sugiono, Lukashenko was initially planned to stay at the State Guesthouse within the Presidential Palace complex. However, President Prabowo Subianto requested that accommodation be prepared at the State Palace for the Belarusian President. “Originally it was at the State Guesthouse, but the President considered the Palace to be more representative,” said the Gerindra Party politician. He said Lukashenko’s visit was a reciprocal visit for Prabowo’s trip to Belarus on 15 July 2025. “This visit is President Lukashenko’s second visit after his first visit to Indonesia back in 2013,” he said.
