Prabowo to Ministers and Agency Heads: Clean Yourself or You Will Be Cleaned

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has asked his ministers and agency heads to clean their institutions of deviant actions.

The Head of State admitted that he had also emphasised this directly to his aides.

“That’s why I told all my colleagues in all institutions, you clean yourself or you will be cleaned,” said Prabowo, during a discussion with journalists and experts, quoted from a video shared by the Presidential Secretariat, on Sunday (22/3/2026).

After giving that instruction, according to him, several of his ministers immediately implemented it.

“If you look at my Public Works Minister now, who is it, Dody, he’s a good person, but if anyone plays around, he sacked two director-generals,” Prabowo continued.

In addition, the Head of State highlighted the need for reforms in the meritocracy sector.

“We must fix our governance, right. Things like, what is it, the tendency to always deceive, isn’t it, smuggling, under-invoicing, all those practices. We will fix them little by little,” he said.

Prabowo also gave an example of the tax revenue sector, which has shown an upward trend after clean-ups at the Directorate General of Taxes.

President Prabowo then revealed plans to reform the Customs and Excise sector.

“Now we must clean the Customs and Excise as well. We must clean all our institutions,” said Prabowo.

On this occasion, Prabowo emphasised the importance of the supremacy of law and good government governance.

Therefore, natural wealth and human resources must be empowered well.

“So if we empower this, we can empower them with money, can you imagine the growth?” he said.
