Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to meet Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during a bilateral visit in Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday (31/3), to discuss various matters ranging from economic cooperation to the global situation, including the Iran conflict.

Foreign Minister Sugiono, in a statement to journalists in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday, with the audio recording received in Jakarta, said the meeting between Prabowo and Takaichi would address political issues as well as the cooperation established between the two governments.

“Tomorrow, he will conduct a bilateral visit with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to discuss matters of a more political nature. Then, the cooperation between the two governments and after that, it will conclude with a joint lunch,” said Sugiono.

Sugiono revealed that the meeting would discuss several sectors, particularly the economy related to agreements already signed between the two countries.

The sectors to be discussed include energy and critical minerals, tourism, maritime and security, as well as education. In addition, he said, both parties would also discuss conservation issues and several other areas in bilateral cooperation.

Sugiono added that the meeting would also address the global and regional situation, including the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran.

“I think usually in every bilateral meeting, various topics are discussed. In particular, the global and regional situation will also be discussed. And I think that (the Iran war) will also be a topic of conversation tomorrow,” Sugiono stated.

The announced cooperation includes several sectors, among others, the development of downstream projects based on clean energy such as methanol production from carbon emissions, exploration and development of the oil and gas sector, development of geothermal energy, as well as strengthening the inclusive financial ecosystem and strategic investments.

Previously, President Prabowo also paid a courtesy visit to Japanese Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Monday to strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries.
