Prabowo to Lead Military Funeral Ceremony for Sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno
Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to lead the military funeral ceremony for Indonesia’s sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno at the Heroes Cemetery (Taman Makam Pahlawan) in Kalibata, South Jakarta, on Monday.
This was announced by Minister of State Secretariat (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi whilst attending the funeral prayer at Sunda Kelapa Mosque in Jakarta on Monday. He stated that the deceased would be given a state funeral and would be led directly by the President.
“God willing, [the President will] lead the funeral ceremony,” Prasetyo said.
The government has also coordinated with the Armed Forces Central Hospital (RSPAD) to ensure the best handling from the time the deceased was hospitalised until his passing was declared.
Prasetyo conveyed that Try Sutrisno leaves behind an important example for the Indonesian nation, particularly in upholding constitutional values and national unity. Throughout his life, the deceased frequently urged the next generation to safeguard the 1945 Constitution and Pancasila and to remain united in building the nation’s independence amidst considerable challenges.
“He has set an example to the entire Indonesian nation of how to love our country,” he said.
Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi, who also serves as President’s Spokesperson, stated that Try Sutrisno was one of the finest sons of the nation who dedicated his entire life to serving Indonesia, the state, and the Indonesian people.
Try Sutrisno, who served as the sixth Vice President during the administration of Indonesia’s second President Suharto, passed away while being treated at the Armed Forces Central Hospital (RSPAD) in Jakarta on Monday morning. The deceased died at the age of 90.
“Regarding information about the passing of Indonesia’s sixth Vice President Retired General Try Sutrisno, we certainly feel profound sorrow. He was one of the finest sons of the Indonesian nation who dedicated himself, devotedly spending his entire life for the nation and state,” Mensesneg told journalists in Jakarta on Monday.
Prasetyo then invited all Indonesian people to pray for the late Try Sutrisno.
“Let us offer prayers so that he may be forgiven for all his sins and mistakes, his deeds may be accepted, and especially as he has been called to meet Allah the Almighty in this blessed month, the month of Ramadan,” said Prasetyo.
Finally, Prasetyo also reminded the nation of the exemplary conduct demonstrated by the late Try Sutrisno in order that it may be continued by the younger generation who are the nation’s successors.
“Let us, the younger generation, the successors of our nation, follow the example that he has set for us in providing the best service to the nation, state, and Indonesian society,” said the Minister of State Secretariat.
In his final years before passing, the deceased remained active in serving the nation, including serving as Deputy Chairman of the Steering Council of the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) for the 2022–2027 term.
The sixth Vice President was also active in attending state events, such as the commemoration of Indonesia’s Independence Proclamation at Merdeka Palace each 17 August, the annual session of the People’s Consultative Assembly, and important events such as the commemoration of the TNI’s anniversary each 5 October.
