Prabowo to Launch New B50 Biodiesel Fuel in July 2026

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Indonesia will have a new fuel, Bahan Bakar Minyak (BBM), in the form of diesel mixed with 50 per cent palm oil, or B50 biodiesel, in July 2026. President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to inaugurate the launch of the new B50 fuel. “B50, based on the latest information we have received, will be launched by the President himself. The plan is for 1 July,” explained the Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, at the Ministry’s office on Friday (26/6/2026). Laode revealed that B50 will be marketed nationally after the existing B40 stocks are depleted. Essentially, the circulation of B50 in the market will require a transition period of about three months after its official launch in July 2026. “Nationally, there will certainly be a transition period for adjustments. This means the remaining B40 stocks must be used up first, with a period of up to three months for the adjustment until there is a 100 per cent switch to B50,” Laode stated. Unfortunately, Laode could not yet disclose the price of the new B50 fuel. He confirmed that the price calculation will be similar to the monthly diesel pricing provisions. “The calculation is for diesel, like the price of diesel. There is no significant difference, none at all. It is the same as the diesel price set each month. The formula we are currently using still follows the previous formula,” Laode clarified.
