Prabowo to Launch National Electric Motorcycle, Palace Says It Will Reduce Fuel Consumption
President Prabowo Subianto will launch a national electric motorcycle in the near future. The Palace stated that the president’s move is part of efforts to reduce dependence on fuel oil. ‘Regarding the national electric motorcycle, we will announce it in due course shortly. There will likely be a launch of the national electric motorcycle, the work of the nation’s children,’ said Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta, Tuesday (21/7/2026). Pras said this domestic electric motorcycle breakthrough demonstrates the achievements of the nation’s children. He mentioned that any shortcomings of the electric motorcycle will also be followed by evaluation steps from the government. ‘This once again proves that if we have the will, if we have the desire, the Indonesian nation will be able to achieve it. If there are still a few shortcomings, let us fix them together,’ he said. Furthermore, Pras said the launch of the national electric motorcycle is also part of the government’s efforts to reduce dependence on fuel oil. ‘I think it also needs to be our concern that an achievement does not stand alone, it does not just have an effect or impact on the automotive world, but it also influences our fossil-based fuel consumption so that we can reduce our fuel oil dependence,’ he said. The programme was previously targeted to run in June 2026 but was cancelled. The plan is for the government to provide incentives for 200,000 electric vehicles, with 100,000 units each for motorcycles and cars. For electric motorcycles, the latest plan is a subsidy of Rp 5 million per unit. Meanwhile, the subsidy for electric cars is still under discussion.
