Prabowo to Launch Mandatory B50 'New Fuel', Mark the Date

Jakarta - Starting 1 July 2026, the government officially enforces the implementation of B50 biodiesel fuel. However, President Prabowo Subianto plans to directly inaugurate the launch of this palm oil-based fuel. This was revealed by Head of the Government Communication Agency (Bakom) M. Qodari to reporters on Thursday (2/7/2026). The implementation of B50 is claimed to strengthen national energy security while reducing dependence on diesel imports. “This is information for media colleagues, the official launch will be carried out directly by President Prabowo Subianto in one to two weeks. If I am not mistaken, the plan is on the 9th (of July), but it can be confirmed later,” Qodari said during a press conference for the Best Quick Results Programme (PHTC) at the Bakom office. Qodari stated that this development direction is part of the energy transition roadmap to increase the new renewable energy mix. It also aims to gradually reduce dependence on fossil fuels and support a green economy to achieve the net zero emission target. Previously, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) spokesperson Dwi Anggia explained that the inauguration of the fuel mixed with 50 per cent palm oil was awaiting the president’s schedule. “In early July, because it will be inaugurated directly by the President. The plan is to launch it at one of the petrol stations,” Dwi Anggia explained at the ESDM Ministry office on Tuesday (30/6/2026). Once inaugurated, all petrol stations across Indonesia will simultaneously implement this new Indonesian B50 fuel. However, there will be a three-month harmonisation phase. This is to use up the remaining B40 stocks available at petrol stations. “A three-month adjustment. To finish the old B40 stocks, and also to ensure distribution to the regions runs smoothly first,” Anggia stressed.
