Prabowo to Launch 3,000 Fishing Villages by 2029
Prabowo said the government will build 5,000 fishing villages in the next three years. ‘This year we will inaugurate 1,386 fishing villages,’ Prabowo said during a plenary session of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. He added that the government will undertake a major intervention to tackle problems faced by fishermen, including difficulties in obtaining ice and fuel. ‘We will ensure every fisherman can have ice. We will set up ice-making plants in every fishing village. We will establish cold storage facilities in each fishing village, and we will build dedicated fuel stations in every fishing village,’ he said. In his speech, Prabowo also stated that Indonesians essentially desire a decent life and basic needs to be met. ‘Our people do not dream of living a wealthy life, but they dream of living a decent, good life,’ he said. ‘They dream of being able to eat well every day, to buy milk for their children, to obtain medicines when their child or father is sick. They dream of owning a decent home,’ he added. He also referred to the constitutional mandate on the management of natural resources. ‘That the land and water and all natural wealth contained therein must be enjoyed by all the Indonesian people,’ Prabowo said.
