Prabowo to Japan to Discuss Trade to Technology
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi stated that President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to Japan aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors. According to Prasetyo, Prabowo’s trip to the Land of the Rising Sun will address several strategic matters that have been strengths in Indonesia-Japan cooperation. “For example, in terms of trade, then technology, education, and including within the scope of forestry and environmental cooperation,” Prasetyo told the media on Sunday, 29 March 2026. This Gerindra Party politician added that Prabowo’s visit to Japan is to fulfil an invitation from Emperor Naruhito. In addition to being scheduled to meet the Japanese Emperor, Prabowo is set to meet Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. President Prabowo departed from Jakarta, Indonesia, and headed to Japan on Sunday, 29 March 2026. According to the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo and a limited entourage took off from the Indonesian National Armed Forces Air Force Base Halim Perdanakusuma, East Jakarta, around 10:35 WIB. The Head of State’s departure was seen off directly by Deputy Speaker of the People’s Representative Council Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Meanwhile, accompanying Prabowo on the flight to Japan were Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya. Prabowo’s visit to Japan will take place from 29-31 March. This visit to Japan marks Prabowo’s first as President of Indonesia. Previously, in September 2025, Prabowo visited Expo 2025 Osaka in Kansai, Japan, in a personal capacity. After completing the series of state visits in Japan, President Prabowo is scheduled to continue his journey to the Republic of Korea to meet South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.
