President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to inaugurate the Marsinah Museum and 1,061 Merah Putih Village Cooperatives in Nganjuk, East Java, on Saturday (16/5).

The President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, stated that the inauguration of the Marsinah Museum will take place on Saturday morning.

Andi said that around 7,000 workers from the Nganjuk, Surabaya, Mojokerto, and Jombang areas are expected to attend the inauguration.

“The president of the labour union in Indonesia will be present here in full. Tomorrow, labour figures from around the world will also be present,” he said to reporters after inspecting the Marsinah Museum on Friday (15/5), as quoted by detikJatim.

Andi revealed that Prabowo is scheduled to arrive in Nganjuk at 08:45 WIB and will inaugurate the Marsinah Museum at 09:00 WIB.

“After the inauguration, we will invite the President to enter the museum, where he can see the journey of Marsinah’s life until her death,” he said.

With the inauguration of the Marsinah Museum, he said that the guesthouse located in the back area will be officially opened. Andi said that the guesthouse can be used by workers every day from 10:00 WIB to 17:00 WIB.

“The guesthouse that we created is for pilgrims who do not have accommodation. It is free of charge, but only for a maximum of one night, so that it does not become a place to live,” he explained.

Marsinah was a female labour activist who died, allegedly murdered by soldiers, during the New Order era. Her figure then became a symbol of the resistance of the working class or labour in Indonesia.

Last year, Prabowo signed a Presidential Decree (Keppres) which established state recognition to make Marsinah a National Hero.

Separately, previously, the Minister of Cooperatives, Ferry Juliantono, stated that the government will begin the symbolic inauguration of the operational of 1,061 Merah Putih Village/Kelurahan Cooperatives on Sunday in Nganjuk. He said that Prabowo will directly symbolically inaugurate the Merah Putih Cooperatives in Central Java and East Java that are ready to operate.

In total, he said that 37,327 cooperatives are being built throughout Indonesia, with 8,927 of them 100 percent complete.

“After the event, the President will visit the Merah Putih Village/Kelurahan Cooperatives and also symbolically inaugurate the operation of cooperatives in Central Java and East Java,” he said when attending the National Coordination Meeting of the Ministry of Cooperatives in Jakarta on Wednesday (13/5), as quoted by Antara.

Ferry said that the government will also hold another inauguration of the Merah Putih Cooperatives after the physical building and supporting facilities are ready, with a target of around 30,000 units.

In addition to physical construction, the Minister of Cooperatives said that the government is preparing a Presidential Instruction (Inpres) regarding the operationalization of the Merah Putih Cooperatives as the basis for the implementation of the program.
