Prabowo to Inaugurate Groundbreaking of 100 GWp Solar Power Plant Programme in Bali Today

President Prabowo Subianto will carry out the launch and groundbreaking of the 100 GWp (gigawatt peak) Solar Power Plant Programme, with the first phase commencing today. The groundbreaking ceremony will be held by Prabowo at the Java-Bali Sea Crossing Operation Monument in Gilimanuk, Jembrana Regency, Bali.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi told reporters on Tuesday (25/8/2026) that the programme is part of the National Priority Work Programme under the Energy and Water Independence Cluster, aimed at strengthening national energy independence and resilience while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

According to Prasetyo, Prabowo has instructed that the construction of the 100 GWp solar power plants be accelerated and completed by 2029. Electricity cost savings are estimated to reach Rp 73.9 trillion per year in 2026.

In addition, Prasetyo said the government is targeting the construction of 30 GWp of solar power plants alongside the retirement of 13 GW of diesel power plants. Indonesia has a solar energy potential of approximately 3,294 GWp, while installed capacity as of April 2026 stood at only around 1.5 GWp.

The programme will be built in stages: Phase I at 17 GWp, Phase II at 18 GWp, and Phase III at 30 GWp.

Prasetyo explained that the 100 GWp solar power programme is also projected to become a new engine of economic growth through investment in generation, batteries, and networks, strengthening the domestic solar PV industry, and creating green jobs.

The 2025-2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan is projected to create around 1.7 million jobs, more than 760,000 of which could potentially be green jobs.
