Prabowo to Inaugurate Electric Vehicle Factory in Magelang Tomorrow

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi stated that President Prabowo Subianto will inaugurate an electric vehicle factory in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday (9/4/2026). “Indeed, tomorrow the President has an agenda to inaugurate one of the factories that produces electric-based vehicles,” said Prasetyo at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026). According to Prasetyo, Indonesia needs to work hard to change the culture and habits of using fossil energy to more environmentally friendly energy. “As you all know, we must work hard as soon as possible to change our culture, change our way of working, and we must switch from fossil-based energy to new renewable energy or EBT, one of which is electricity-based,” said Prasetyo. That policy, according to Prasetyo, is aimed at saving energy amid global conflicts. This conflict is known to have caused world oil prices to soar because the main oil trade route is not operating normally. “We all know that with the aforementioned international geopolitical developments, there are dynamics in global fuel prices. And actually, the government has been and is preparing towards the use of new and renewable energy,” said Prasetyo. On the other hand, Prasetyo continued, the government is also starting to reduce the use of official vehicles for unnecessary needs. He stated that Indonesia is heading towards energy independence gradually. “We hope that we all start slowly improving our public transportation, so it is hoped that there will be a shift to using mass transportation. The hope is that in the future we will be energy independent. But this does require time, it requires time,” Prasetyo emphasised.
