Prabowo to Inaugurate Electric Vehicle Factory Capable of Producing 3,000 Units Tomorrow

JAKARTA - The electric vehicle factory in Magelang, which President Prabowo Subianto will inaugurate tomorrow, will be capable of producing 3,000 units of electric cars.

State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that President Prabowo Subianto will officially open the electric vehicle factory in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday (9/4/2026).

“We haven’t yet calculated whether the government will purchase or order them. Based on the reports, the production capacity is quite substantial, I believe around 3,000 units,” said State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

Although it is not yet clear whether the government will place orders for electric vehicles from the factory in the future, the government will first monitor the surrounding conditions and the potential involved.

“Well, from a business perspective, we’ll see if there are already contracts in place,” he added.

He noted that Indonesia’s steps towards energy conservation are on the right track.

“We indeed need to start transforming our culture from consuming fossil fuel-based raw materials to new renewable energy, one of which is electricity,” said Prasetyo.

On the other hand, Prasetyo continued, the government is also beginning to reduce the use of official vehicles for unnecessary needs.

He stated that Indonesia is moving towards energy independence gradually.

Prasetyo said that this policy is aimed at energy conservation amid global conflicts. These conflicts are known to have caused world oil prices to surge due to disruptions in major oil trade routes.

“We’re trying to change our work culture, to make it more efficient, right? On one side, there needs to be a replacement, a substitute. If we reduce the use of private vehicles, we should turn to, for example, public transportation. And thankfully, there is now public transportation that is also electric-based,” explained Prasetyo.
