Prabowo to Inaugurate Bakrie Electric Vehicle Factory, Here is the Location
President Prabowo Subianto will undertake a working visit to Magelang, Central Java, tomorrow, Thursday (9/4/2026). He is scheduled to inaugurate an electric vehicle factory. “Yes, indeed, tomorrow the President has an agenda to inaugurate one of the factories producing electric-based vehicles,” said State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, when asked by reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex on Wednesday (8/4/2026). Prasetyo explained that society must work hard to change the culture when travelling, using transport powered by electric energy. In line with that, the government has also issued various policies to encourage the use of transport with renewable new energy. “Now, if you pay attention, some time ago the government also issued policies directed towards that, how we together carry out a cultural transformation in working, a cultural transformation in transportation so that we reduce dependence on fossil-based fuels,” said Prasetyo. In Magelang, it is known that there is an electric car vehicle factory of PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk (VKTR). This company is part of the Bakrie Group. “Yes, that’s correct,” he replied when asked whether the mentioned PT VKTR belongs to the Bakrie Group or not. Quoting information from the company’s social media page, this factory has carried out a soft launching of the first CKD car assembly factory at the end of May 2025, with a capacity of 3,000 units per year. The electric vehicles produced are in the commercial segment such as trucks to buses. When asked further whether the government will procure or purchase the production results of PT VKTR, Prasetyo said there has been no calculation for that yet. “We haven’t reached the point of calculating whether the government will order. Because based on the production report, its capacity is 3,000 units. Later, from a business perspective, we will see,” he said.
