National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Head Arif Satria said Prabowo had invited him to attend the meeting with Ramos-Horta at the Presidential Palace.

Satria said the meeting could be followed by a regular government discussion led by Prabowo to review current developments and potential BRIN contributions.

He said the discussion could focus on the latest situation and ways BRIN could provide assistance, solutions or other forms of support.

Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto said he would accompany Prabowo in meeting Ramos-Horta, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and other Nobel awardees.

Yuliarto said scientists who have received Nobel awards were expected to join the Timor-Leste delegation, although he had not yet received details about their participation.

He said the meeting was expected to cover bilateral cooperation in higher education and provide opportunities to strengthen Indonesia’s research capabilities.

Yuliarto said Indonesia could benefit from visits by Nobel laureates, whose achievements demonstrate the high standards required for excellence in scientific research.

He expressed hope that Indonesia could gain insights from the laureates to strengthen its national research and higher education systems.

Earlier Friday, Ramos-Horta led a delegation of Nobel and Turing awardees in a discussion with Megawati Soekarnoputri, Indonesia’s fifth president.
