Prabowo to Host Belarus President for Talks on Cooperation Potential

Foreign Minister Sugiono has stated that President Prabowo Subianto will receive a reciprocal state visit from Belarusian President Alexandr Lukashenko at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday. Sugiono said the visit follows up on President Prabowo’s trip to Belarus on 15 July last year, which resulted in a commitment to expand bilateral cooperation. “As we know, on 15 July last year (2025), our President visited there and from that meeting, many potential areas of bilateral cooperation were identified for further development,” Sugiono said at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday. Sugiono explained that the meeting between the two heads of state is expected to open a new, more intensive chapter in relations between Indonesia and Belarus. According to the Foreign Minister, both countries have significant cooperation potential that will continue to be developed across various strategic sectors. “Today, a bilateral relations roadmap across various sectors between Indonesia and Belarus will also be launched,” he said. He added that the strengthening of relations is supported by the signing of the Indonesia-Eurasia CEPA agreement, with Belarus being one of the countries that has ratified it. This is considered an important foundation for enhancing economic cooperation between the two nations. The government will strengthen collaboration in the agricultural sector, including cooperation on the supply of fertiliser raw materials from Belarus. “Our main interest, as this is also in line with the President’s programmes, especially in the fields of food security and energy security, more intensive cooperation in this area will also be solidified. Several agricultural products, and particularly fertiliser raw materials, will also be cooperated on between Belarus and Indonesia,” he stated. According to Sugiono, this visit marks President Lukashenko’s second trip to Indonesia, following his first in 2013. The Indonesian government hopes this reciprocal visit will further strengthen bilateral relations while opening new opportunities for increased trade, investment, and the fulfilment of strategic resource needs for both countries.
