Prabowo to Host Belarus President for Talks on Cooperation Potential
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that President Prabowo Subianto will receive a return state visit from Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday.
Sugiono noted that the visit serves as a follow-up to President Prabowo’s visit to Belarus on 15 July last year, which resulted in commitments to expand bilateral cooperation.
“As we know, on 15 July (2025), our President visited there, and from that meeting, there are many potentials for bilateral cooperation that we wish to continue developing,” Sugiono said at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday.
The Foreign Minister explained that the meeting between the two heads of state is expected to open a new chapter of increasingly intensive relations between Indonesia and Belarus.
According to the Foreign Minister, both countries possess significant potential for cooperation that will continue to be developed across various strategic sectors.
“Today, a roadmap for bilateral relations across various sectors between Indonesia and Belarus will also be launched,” he said.
He added that the strengthening of these relations is supported by the signing of the Indonesia-Eurasia CEPA, with Belarus being one of the countries that has ratified it. This is considered an important foundation for increasing economic cooperation between the two nations.
The government intends to strengthen collaboration in the agricultural sector, including cooperation in the supply of raw materials for fertilisers from Belarus.
“Our primary interest, as this aligns with the President’s programme—particularly in the fields of food and energy security—is to stabilise more intensive cooperation in these areas. Several agricultural products, and specifically fertiliser raw materials, will also be subject to cooperation between Belarus and Indonesia,” he remarked.
According to Sugiono, this marks President Lukashenko’s second visit to Indonesia, following his first visit in 2013.
The Indonesian government hopes this return visit will further tighten bilateral ties while opening new opportunities for increased trade, investment, and the fulfilment of strategic resource needs for both countries.
