Prabowo to gather governors and regents to discuss 'Indonesia ASRI' programme

President Prabowo Subianto has stated he will hold a special meeting with governors and regents to discuss the Indonesia ASRI (Aman, Sehat, Resik, dan Indah) programme. “There will be a special meeting, governors, all of them, I will gather the regents in Jakarta. I don’t know exactly when, specifically to talk about Indonesia ASRI, Safe, Healthy, Clean and Beautiful, because this is very important,” said Prabowo during the FLPP Sejahtera Mortgage Mass Contract event in Batang, Central Java, on Thursday. Prabowo said the discussion on Indonesia ASRI is important in line with the government’s efforts to transform national development. According to him, amidst a world situation full of uncertainty, Indonesia must secure its food, energy, and various other strategic sectors. However, on the other hand, he said Indonesia must also protect the environment to anticipate climate change and global warming. “This means, as humans, we must take the initiative to protect the environment,” he said. Therefore, President Prabowo said the government will take various steps to control environmental issues, including waste management. “Waste must be brought under control. God willing, within the next one to two years we will make drastic changes. I request that by the end of 2027, Indonesia’s waste problem is resolved. There should be no more mountains of rubbish,” he stated. Besides creating a clean environment, the President considers the aesthetic aspect of the environment also needs attention because it relates to the attractiveness of the tourism sector, which can create many jobs. According to Prabowo, tourists will not be interested in visiting cities, beaches, or rivers filled with rubbish. Therefore, environmental cleanliness and sustainability are considered an important part of increasing tourism competitiveness while maintaining the quality of life for the community. “Tourists will not want to come to a dirty city. They will not come to a beach full of plastic and rubbish, or to rivers and streams filled with waste. Besides being unhealthy, this condition is also not good for the nation’s self-esteem,” he asserted.
